If you have a credit card, they are readily acceptable in many places even the small establishments. At service stations also credit cards can be accepted generally. Small towns also have embraced technology and therefore carrying a credit card with you is not necessarily a bad idea.

ATM machines in Spain allow withdrawal by credit card. The PIN of your credit card will however be required in such a case. If you do not know the pin of your credit card then it will be quite unfortunate as you will not be able to make any withdrawals.

When you are using a credit card at various stores, you may be required to produce your ID. In some stores, the ID card may not be enough and they will require you to produce a passport. Be sure to carry all these things for your trip.
